The Horizon Residence exemplifies the fusion of contemporary design and nature, capturing the awe-inspiring meeting point of the mountains and the sea. Drawing inspiration from the renowned International Style and the legendary Case Study Houses in the vicinity, this residence seamlessly blends with its natural environment, providing framed vistas of the grand Santa Monica mountains and the vast Pacific Ocean from its interiors.
Embodying a holistic design philosophy that prioritizes the Owner's needs, community, and environment, the residence strikes a delicate balance between sustainability and modern design principles. Collaborative efforts with neighbors were pivotal in crafting the residence's massing and roofline, which preserved ocean views from surrounding homes and reflected a strong commitment to community outreach throughout the design process.
The residence ensures functionality and comfort by offering a layout tailored to diverse lifestyles. The central courtyard is a vital connector between indoor and outdoor spaces, where natural ventilation, daylighting, and thermal comfort are meticulously optimized to enhance the living environment. The integration of biomorphic elements in the courtyard fosters a profound sense of well-being and harmony, deepening the occupants' connection with nature. Moreover, flexible circulation is integral to the design, as there is not one way to circulate in and around the home; there are multiple ways.
