Venice Beach Home Series:  LINEAR LIGHT

Located in Venice, the Milwood Avenue Residence is organized as a narrow, linear sequence of spaces that connects the street to the garden. The plan uses the depth of the site to create a continuous relationship between interior and exterior, allowing light, air, and movement to extend through the house.

A double-height living room forms the center of the home, bringing western light deep into the interior and opening toward the garden and outdoor spaces. The space also references the open character of Venice's historic artist lofts, while providing a central gathering space for the family.

A floating stair continues the movement through the house, connecting the living spaces to the upper levels and rooftop deck. As the house rises, views open toward Venice and the Santa Monica Mountains, creating a different experience of the neighborhood from each level.

The design makes efficient use of the relatively narrow site, using changes in height, natural light, and connections to the garden to give the home a greater sense of space. The result is a compact house that is open, adaptable, and closely connected to its Venice setting.
